The analysis of carotid artery wall is an important part in the diagnosis of cardiovascular pathologies. Many of the morphological properties of common carotid artery like its lumen diameter, dimensions and thickness of the wall can be non – intrusive which is measured through ultrasound image techniques. As per the medical imaging process, the initial part is the recognition of carotid artery in ultrasound images. This problem of carotid artery detection is solved by process of Laplacian gaussian template based segmentation and identification of carotid artery. A circular template is created by applying laplacian Gaussian filter. Then correlation techniques are applied for the template matching. Later the contours of carotid artery are obtained as the segmented output of ultrasound images.
